                                                                                                                                    Booking PCs, spaces, booths or group study rooms

                                                                                                                                    How to make a booking

                                                                                                                                    LSE students can make a PC, study space, booth or room booking.

                                                                                                                                    You can book a PC on the:

                                                                                                                                    • 2nd floor

                                                                                                                                    You can book a study space on the:

                                                                                                                                    • 3rd floor
                                                                                                                                    • 2nd floor
                                                                                                                                    • Lower ground floor

                                                                                                                                    Group study rooms and booths

                                                                                                                                    • Study rooms and booths are available for LSE students to do group work.
                                                                                                                                    • They are available for between two and eight people.
                                                                                                                                    • Rooms can be booked up to 14 days in advance.
                                                                                                                                    • You can also use LSE LIFE for group study.

                                                                                                                                    Collaboration space (R3.03)

                                                                                                                                    This is an open space that is available for booking between 9am-9pm by student groups between 10-20 (email the Enquiries team Library.Enquiries@lse.ac.uk).

                                                                                                                                    It may be used by multiple groups at the same time, and can be booked by two groups at the same time.

                                                                                                                                    Study spaces

                                                                                                                                    Study spaces are available throughout the Library. Silent areas are towards the edge of the building on floors 1, 2 and 3.

                                                                                                                                    • Undergraduate and postgraduate silent study rooms are available on the 1st and 4th floors.

                                                                                                                                    Printing and photocopying for staff, students and visitors

                                                                                                                                    The Print & Copy Helpdesk is located on the 1st floor of the Library.

                                                                                                                                    • Monday to Friday:             9.30am – 6.50pm
                                                                                                                                    • Saturday and Sunday:     10.30am – 5.50pm (during term time)

                                                                                                                                    Photocopying and printing charges

                                                                                                                                    • 3.5p per side for A4 mono
                                                                                                                                    • 7p per side for A3 mono
                                                                                                                                    • 10p per side for A4 colour
                                                                                                                                    • 20p per side for A3 colour

                                                                                                                                    LSE students

                                                                                                                                    Squid cards are not valid for either printing or photocopying, you must credit your print account if you want to photocopy. There are 3 ways to do this:

                                                                                                                                    1. Use the value loaders, these are available on the lower ground and 1st floors.

                                                                                                                                    2. Sign in to your online print account.

                                                                                                                                    3. Visit the Print & Copy Helpdesk during opening hours and our staff can take payment in cash or card.

                                                                                                                                    LSE staff

                                                                                                                                    We are currently upgrading systems for staff and an update will follow shortly.

                                                                                                                                    Visitors and alumni

                                                                                                                                    Visitors and alumni are able to print using the Canon printers on the 1st floor of the Library. To create a printing account, visit the IMT Walk in Centre on the 1st floor of the Library.

                                                                                                                                    Dissertation binding

                                                                                                                                    Print & Copy Helpdesk staff can bind your work for you while you wait - it normally only takes a few minutes for this to be done. This service is offered throughout the year and is often used by students wanting to have their dissertation bound.

                                                                                                                                    We offer 'plastic comb binding' only so check your department requirements to ensure this meets expectations. A single set of plastic comb binding normally costs £2.50.

                                                                                                                                    Please don't press down on book spines and take extra care with large and heavy items.

                                                                                                                                    If microfilm or digital copies are available, please use them. If you need help using these, please ask Library staff.

                                                                                                                                    Lockers for LSE students

                                                                                                                                    Library lockers can be hired for the academic year for a fee of £5. Due to the limited number of lockers available in the Library, lockers are allocated via a lottery system.

                                                                                                                                    The lottery for the 2018/19 academic year has now closed. If you have been successful you will shortly receive an email with further instructions. If you have not been successful then we will add you to a waiting list.

                                                                                                                                    We are committed to providing full access to the range of services and facilities that we offer. 

                                                                                                                                    Note that some Library services are not available to external visitors.

                                                                                                                                    Physical access to the building

                                                                                                                                    • Access to the Library building is via a set of automatic doors, activated by the press of a button.
                                                                                                                                    • Automated glass gates provide access through the entrances to the Main Library, LIFE area and the Course Collection area on the 1st floor.
                                                                                                                                    • Accessible toilets are located on all floors.

                                                                                                                                    DisabledGo access guide

                                                                                                                                    DisabledGo provide short reports that outline the disabled and access features at a particular venue. There is a DisabledGo guide for LSE Library that provides information to help people in using the building and services. 

                                                                                                                                    Services we offer

                                                                                                                                    • Three 1st floor study rooms, equipped with assistive IT equipment as well as two IT work station areas (ground and lower ground floors), are all reserved for LSE students.
                                                                                                                                    • A braille printer and two video magnifying systems (CCTV) are located within the 1st floor study rooms. 
                                                                                                                                    • A fetch service (Monday to Friday) to facilitate easy access to the collections. We are able to fetch up to 15 items per week for you and can guarantee that requests placed before 11am will be ready for collection by 5pm the same day.
                                                                                                                                    • Flexible borrowing arrangements, including extended loan periods and increased borrowing allowances to suit individual needs.
                                                                                                                                    • Free book lockers which can be allocated for the duration of your course.
                                                                                                                                    • Free photocopying and printing is available for LSE students who have been referred by the Disability and Wellbeing Service.
                                                                                                                                    • A Buddy service which provides you with a staff contact who will advise and assist you throughout your time at LSE.

                                                                                                                                    There are many specialist libraries across London covering a wide range of subjects.Contact your librarian for advice about specialist libraries which may be ideal for you.

                                                                                                                                    LSE staff and students can sign up to a scheme to use many libraries across the UK.

                                                                                                                                    • Search the libraries you can access using SCONUL Access.
                                                                                                                                    • Follow instructions to register for the scheme.
                                                                                                                                    • Plan your visit and your requirements with the host library.

                                                                                                                                    University library access policies vary and can be complex. You are advised to check in advance with the library you want to visit regarding their access policies.  

                                                                                                                                    Can I borrow?

                                                                                                                                    Under SCONUL Access, borrowing is available to staff, research students, and part-time students.  Taught course students may only use the scheme for reference access.

                                                                                                                                    LSE Library has a separate agreement with SOAS allowing MSc students to borrow.

                                                                                                                                    Search other libraries collections

                                                                                                                                    Search across major UK research libraries collections using Copac  and identify where material you need is located. Ask Library staff if you need assistance accessing material. 

                                                                                                                                    It is also possible to use Interlending services, or request LSE purchases material by filling in the Recommend material form.
